The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate decreased to 4.9% in August 2016 compared to 5.1% in July 2016.
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate recorded in July 2016 decreased to 7.0% from 7.6% recorded in July 2016.
The Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home decreased to 7.0% in August 2016 from 7.8% recorded in July 2016.
In addition, the 12-month index change for non-food products decreased to 3.0% in August 2016 from 3.2% in July 2016.
The Annual Inflation Rate, excluding food and energy, stood at 2.6% in August 2016 as it was recorded in July 2016.
The purchasing power of 100 Tanzanian Shillings reached TZS96 and 83 cents in August 2016 from December 2015. It was TZS96 and 62 cents in July 2016.
After a peak of 6.8% in December 2015, inflation in Tanzania has been steadily decreasing, reaching 5.1% in April 2016, slightly increasing to 5.5% in June 2016, and again, falling to 5.1% in July 2016, and 4.9% in August 2016.
