The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate for September 2019 has decreased to 3.4% from 3.6% recorded in August 2019.
The overall index went up to 115.92 in September 2019 from 112.12 recorded in September 2018.
Food and Non-Food Inflation Rates
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate for the month of September 2019 has increased to 4.0% from 3.7% recorded in August 2019.
Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home for the month of September 2019 has slightly increased to 5.1% from 5.0% recorded in August 2019.
On the other hand, the 12-month index change for non-food products in September 2019 has decreased to 3.1% from 3.5% recorded in August 2019.
Inflation Rate Excluding Food and Energy
The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy for the month of September 2019 has decreased to 2.7% from 2.9% recorded in August 2019.
Monthly Headline Inflation Rate
The Consumer Price Index from August, 2019 to September 2019 has decreased by 0.1% compared to a decrease by 0.5% recorded from July 2019 to August 2019.
The overall index has decreased to 115.92 in September 2019 from 116.01 recorded in August 2019.
The decrease of the overall index is mainly attributed to the price decrease for food items.
Some food items that contributed to such a decrease include: sardines by -2.5%; fruits by -1.1%; vegetables by -1.2%; peas by -4.0%; cocoyam by -3.7% and round potatoes by -4.2%.
