Tanzania Annual Inflation Stagnate at 3.3% in August 2018

Tanzania Inflation August 2018

The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate for August 2018 has stagnated at 3.3% as it was recorded in July 2018. 

The overall index went up to 112.01 in August 2018 from 108.46 recorded in August 2017.

Food and Non-Food Inflation Rates
Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home has slightly increased to 3.2% in August 2018 from 3.0% recorded in July 2018.

The 12-month index change for non-food products in August 2018 has increased to 4.6% from 4.2% recorded in July 2018.

Inflation Rate Excluding Food and Energy
The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy for the month of August 2018 has increased to 2.0% from 1.6% recorded in July 2018.

Monthly Headline Inflation Rate
The Consumer Price Index from July 2018 to August 2018 has decreased by 0.4% compared to a decrease of 0.3% recorded in July 2018 from June 2018.

The overall index has decreased to 112.01 in August 2018 from 112.44 recorded in July 2018.

The decrease of the overall index is mainly attributed to a price decrease of food items.

Some food items that contributed to such decrease include; rice by 1.7%, maize grains by 3.6%, maize flour by 3.5%, wheat flour by 1.2%, sorghum flour by 2.0%, vegetables by 2.8%, cassava by 1.6% and cocoyam by 3.6%.
