A recent survey on the business environment of Tanzania indicates that investors are concerned with high taxation and inadequate infrastructure.
TanzaniaInvest.com has conducted an anonymous survey on its website asking users a simple question: “Under Magufuli’s Presidency, the business environment is: Better, Worse, or Same [as before]?”
Of 2,005 respondents, 48% found the business environment to have improved, 40% found it to have worsened, while 12% found it to be the same.
TanzaniaInvest.com also asked respondents their nationality, if Tanzanians or other (foreign), and their annual income level, if below or above USD 50,000.
70% of the respondents were Tanzanians. Of these, 48% deemed the business environment to have improved, 41% deemed it to have deteriorated, while just 1% deemed it to be the same.
Of the foreign respondents, 44% found the business environment to have improved, 39% found it to have deteriorated, while 17% found it to be the same.
65% of the respondents declared to earn less than USD 50,000 per year. Of these, 46% found the business environment to have improved, 42% to have worsened, and 12% to be the same.
Among the respondents who declared to earn more than USD 50,000 per year, 53% found the business environment to have improved, 37% to have worsened, and 10% to be the same.
Users were also asked, “What needs to be improved to make the business environment better?”
Taxation was the most recurrent issue, with repeated calls for tax reductions, followed by infrastructure and the need for its improvement.
